Rainbows End and Rivers Environmental Group Inc are made up of Rainbows End and Green Road residents who value and appreciate the environment they live in.
Rainbows End and Rivers Environmental Group’s key focus is the preservation and enhancement of the natural character and values of the area and the adjacent rivers and estuary.
The group also fulfils the role of a community group by keeping residents informed of matters that affect the area and making submissions to the local government.
Rainbows End features a stand of stunning mature pohutukawa trees which are home to many native birds, as is the nearby coastal estuary.
Rainbows End and Rivers Environmental Group Inc are active in pest control on rural properties and on the Rainbows End reserve and headland. Planting and weed control on the main reserve to slow down erosion, reduce siltation, and improve habitat for native birds and animals, are all part of the group’s environmental work.
REaREG’s work is collaborative with other environmental groups including pest control with ‘The Forest Bridge Trust’, and shellfish motoring in the estuary with ‘Friends of Awa Matakanakana Catchment’.
While there is no shortage of local volunteers, the group welcomes volunteer support for major environmental projects on the Green Road peninsular.
