About the event
To-date, we’ve heard the first thoughts about the Matakana catchment from our community, farmers and businesses.
On Sunday June 14, we’ll share the feedback and you can make your voice heard, learn more and connect with others at the second catchment plan workshop for the wider Matakana region at Matakana School.
Friends of Awa Matakanakana (FOAM) volunteers have monitored and tested water throughout the catchment for six years. We’ve collected eDNA samples and know there are numerous taonga, some endangered, but there are also some waterways with poor biodiversity.
We will share the current state of the catchment, where there are hot spots that have the potential to cause harm in the catchment and what is already being done to mitigate problems.
Steve Hathaway, co-founder of Young Ocean Explorers, will share his perspective of the impact of sediment and what’s happening under the water in Kawau Bay and beyond.
