The Forest Bridge Trust is bringing Kiwi Avoidance Training for Dogs (KAT) to Kaukapakapa for the first time on Sunday 22 November. If you have a working, hunting, farm or family dog, this is a great opportunity to help protect our precious native kiwi.

Time & Location
22 Nov 2026, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Kaukapakapa Pony Club, Henley Road, Kaukapakapa 0871, New Zealand
About the event
Kiwi are increasingly vulnerable in rural areas, and even well-behaved dogs can pose a risk to them. Dogs are naturally curious and may chase, catch or kill kiwi, even if they have never shown this behaviour before.
As we expand our work into the Kaukapakapa area, we’re encouraging local dog owners to take advantage of this practical training and help keep kiwi safe in our communities.
What will your dog learn?
Kiwi Avoidance Training uses controlled e-collar training, kiwi scent and decoys to help dogs develop an avoidance response to kiwi. The session provides owners with practical skills to help manage their dogs when working, hunting or exercising in areas where kiwi may be present.
KAT can help you:
Reduce the risk of your dog encountering or harming kiwi.
