About the event

At 9.45am we will meet at South Omaha where trappers Rob Zubielevitch and John Mew will walk us along one of their important traplines around the Taniko wetlands. 

(Head to the very end of Mangatawhiri rd and take a slight right, there are some parking spaces but mostly it will be roadside parking)


The Omaha Taniko Wetlands Scientific Reserve is a bodiversity focus area (BFA), contains one of the most important areas of swamp forest in Auckland and is administered by the Department of Conservation


This area not only registered 3 male kiwi, monitored last year by Dr Virginia Morino from TFBT, but is also a site for the endangered Pateke. 


After this tour (approx 45 mins/ 1 hr) we will drive north to the Omaha Shorebird Sanctuary to have morning tea.(approx 30 mins) 


Then Jo Strahan and Sue Cook of the Omaha Shorebird Protection Trust will show us around and talk about challenges and…
