Collaboration is central to RRE. We work alongside community groups, landowners, mana whenua, businesses, Auckland Council, the Rodney Local Board and other organisations where there is an opportunity to share knowledge, resources, skills or connections. Our independence allows RRE to bring people together while keeping our focus on community-led environmental restoration.
RRE connects community environmental groups across eastern Rodney, including Puhoi, Warkworth, Matakana, Leigh, Te Ārai and surrounding communities. Our rohe includes a diverse range of environments, from forests and farmland to streams, wetlands, estuaries, coastlines and the ocean. The groups within our network work on the environmental priorities that matter in their own communities.
No. Restore Rodney East is independent of Auckland Council and the Rodney Local Board. We work closely with Auckland Council, the Rodney Local Board and other organisations because collaboration is important to achieving stronger environmental outcomes. The Rodney Local Board funds our paid facilitator role, for which we are very grateful. However, RRE is a separate organisation with its own governance, finances and decision-making.
Yes. RRE is an incorporated society and registered charitable organisation. Our charitable status allows us to seek grants and other support to further our purpose of supporting, connecting and empowering volunteers, landowners and community groups to protect and restore the environment.
Restore Rodney East (RRE) is an independent, community-led environmental organisation bringing people, groups and communities together to protect and restore nature. We are an incorporated society and registered charitable organisation, governed independently by our own volunteer committee. RRE supports, connects and empowers volunteers, landowners and community groups by sharing knowledge, resources and skills, and creating opportunities to work together for stronger environmental outcomes. Our work spans land, freshwater, wetlands, waterways, coastal areas and marine environments across eastern Rodney. At the heart of RRE is a simple idea: restoring nature through community connection.
RRE provides the connections, coordination and support that help local environmental groups thrive. We share knowledge and resources, connect groups with people and expertise, support funding opportunities, provide access to shared equipment and resources, and create opportunities for groups to learn from and work alongside one another. Our network supports a wide range of environmental work, including predator control, habitat restoration, planting, weed control, wetlands, waterways, biodiversity, wildlife, coastal and marine restoration. Our role is to support the people doing the mahi in their own communities — RRE doesn't do the doing; we help local groups do what they do best.
