RRE SEEKS NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS – HELP SHAPE OUR FUTURE

Are you passionate about community-led conservation and have skills, experience or ideas that could help shape the future of Restore Rodney East (RRE)? We'd love to hear from you.

Since its beginnings in 2021, RRE has grown into a network of environmental groups working together to restore nature across our rohe. Through connection, collaboration and practical support, we help local groups achieve more, share resources and create opportunities for community-led conservation.

As our network continues to grow, so do the opportunities – and the need to think about where we go next.

We're looking for new committee members who can bring fresh perspectives, professional experience and forward-thinking ideas to help guide RRE's next chapter.

More than a committee role

Being an RRE committee member is about helping shape the direction and future of the organisation. While our member groups focus on delivering conservation projects on the ground, RRE provides the connections, support, resources and opportunities that help those groups thrive.

Our committee plays an important governance role, ensuring RRE is well-managed, accountable and working towards its purpose. It provides oversight, sets strategic direction and helps identify opportunities for the organisation and its wider network.

This includes:

  • Strategic direction: Helping set priorities, shape future plans and identify where RRE can make the greatest difference.

  • Good governance: Providing sound oversight, contributing to effective decision-making and ensuring the organisation operates responsibly.

  • Legal and regulatory responsibilities: Understanding the obligations of an incorporated society and registered charity, including committee duties, compliance, accountability and good governance practices.

  • Forward thinking: Looking ahead, recognising opportunities and anticipating challenges as our environmental network evolves.

  • Creating opportunities: Exploring partnerships, funding opportunities, new initiatives and ways to strengthen support for member groups.

  • Building relationships: Supporting connections with mana whenua, local boards, councils, funders, community organisations and other partners.

  • Representing our network: Keeping the needs, experiences and aspirations of our member groups at the heart of what we do.

Who are we looking for?

You don't need to be a conservation expert or have previous environmental sector experience. We're interested in people who can bring practical skills, sound judgement, fresh perspectives and a genuine interest in supporting community-led conservation.

We would particularly welcome people with experience or knowledge in:

  • Governance and committee experience – understanding how committees operate effectively, make decisions and provide good organisational oversight.

  • Legal and compliance responsibilities – familiarity with the responsibilities of incorporated societies and registered charities, including governance obligations, policies and accountability.

  • Strategic planning and organisational development – helping organisations look ahead, set priorities and plan for long-term sustainability.

  • Finance and business management – supporting sound financial oversight and responsible decision-making.

  • Funding and relationship building – identifying opportunities, developing partnerships and strengthening connections with funders and stakeholders.

  • Communications and community development – helping RRE engage, connect and represent its diverse network.

We're particularly interested in people who can draw on their professional or volunteer experience, ask the right questions, think strategically and help RRE navigate its next stage of development.

Be part of what comes next

RRE is an organisation built around connection and collaboration. Our strength comes from the people and groups who make up our network, and our future depends on having the right people helping guide the way.

The committee's role is to provide governance, direction and oversight, working alongside our paid facilitator who supports the organisation's day-to-day coordination and delivery.

Being on the committee is an opportunity to have a voice, influence direction, bring forward ideas and help create opportunities that benefit environmental groups across our rohe.

Could you contribute something to RRE's next chapter?

If you're interested in finding out more about becoming a committee member, we'd love to have a conversation. You don't need to make a commitment straight away – we're happy to talk about what's involved and where your skills and interests might fit.
