A Moving Force for Nature and Community

At Restore Rodney East (RRE), we believe collaboration is key to creating a thriving, resilient natural environment. The RRE Community Trailer – is already making a big difference across the rohe.

This trailer is more than just a practical tool – it’s a mobile hub designed to support environmental action. Whether it’s transporting plants and tools to a community planting day, setting up for an event, or bringing educational materials to a local school, the trailer is a flexible and reliable companion to our mahi.

Our many member groups, volunteers, and project leaders often found themselves making multiple car trips or struggling to move gear to remote sites. By creating a shared, centralised solution, we’ve not only lightened the load – we’ve strengthened our ability to work together.

But this isn’t just any trailer it comes equipped with a pull-out BBQ – a welcome addition to support volunteers in the field. After a morning of planting or trap-checking, there’s nothing better than gathering for a hot sausage sizzle or shared cuppa. It’s these small touches that help build camaraderie and show appreciation for the incredible people behind our conservation efforts.

True to our values, the RRE Community Trailer is a shared resource. It’s available to member groups and volunteers across the Rodney East area to use for restoration activities, educational outreach, and community events. By removing barriers like access to transport and gear, we’re enabling more people to take action and contribute.

We’re already seeing its impact: local groups have used it to move traps, native seedlings, gazebos, and more. Whether it's helping at a wetland restoration site, or acting as a mobile base for our workshops and hui, the trailer is quietly – and effectively – powering the grassroots work of RRE and our wider community.

Join Us on the Journey

If you see the RRE trailer out on the road or parked at an event, come and say hello! It’s there to support the mahi of many – and to keep our volunteers well-fed while we restore our whenua, one sausage at a time.
